Too many people in the designer puppy industry are in it for the money and not the puppies' best interests. That's why you can find those who breed hybrid or designer dogs so offensive if you have a soft spot for canines.

Look at two different Cockapoo dog breeders and compare and contrast how they handle the actual transaction.

Evidence of a Questionable Cockapoo Puppy Breeder: a Real-Life Example

I got my Bichon Cockapoo, Alvin, from a pet store. This was my first time buying a pet online, so I made sure to educate myself as much as possible before making my purchase. What we had was insufficient.

Alvin presented with several ailments, including a UTI, intestinal parasites, and a scratching/allergy issue. Antibiotics and parasite-killing drugs eventually cured the first two illnesses, but not before a month of treatment.

Still itching after 4 months of ear drops, skin mite needles, and medicated food. Strangely, the scratching issue came up in my last email to the breeder. I didn't get a reply, and I haven't heard back from her since.

This breeder is obviously not to be trusted and is typical of the unscrupulous people about whom complaints are frequently voiced in online communities dedicated to the care of pets, such as dogs.

Example of a Trustworthy Cockapoo Puppy Breeder (Case Study)

I got Alvin three months ago, and just recently got Simon, another Cockapoo, from a breeder in Pennsylvania. This time, I went to see the dog breeder in person and had a lengthy conversation with the breeder about how to take care of the puppy. She went over what to feed them, how to give them vitamins, and how to get them to stop pooping in the home.

My email conversations with the breeder about the puppy's upbringing continue. My vet says Simon is well, and he's continuing to get his shots.

To which of the two breeders I've profiled here would you bring home your future cockapoo puppies near me?

Who is to Blame?

Based on my observations, not all f1 Cockapoo breeders are heartless exploiters. Yes, there are probably hundreds of unscrupulous dog breeders out there wreaking havoc on their more honest peers.

However, shouldn't it be up to the shopper to investigate the product further before making a final decision? Where does the responsibility lie if you end up with a poorly cared-for dog that you purchased from an uncaring breeder? Take a look at yourself!
